Residents of Cozumel now have reason to celebrate as they prepare to welcome thousands of cruise ship passengers next week, proving that despite Hurricane Wilma, Cozumel remains a favorite Port of Call in the Caribbean.

Twelve luxury passenger cruise ships will anchor offshore and tender passengers to the island throughout the week, Including vessels from such companies as Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

To honor the passengers´ return, local government officials and businesses in Cozumel have organized “Festival del Mar Caribe,” a week-long fiesta featuring cultural music, festive dance performances, local artisans, roving mariachi bands, lively entertainment and street vendors selling local crafts and paintings.

Before arriving on the island, cruise passengers will receive a personal welcome letter from Cozumel Mayor Gustavo Ortega, as well as a complete itinerary for the Festival.

“We have organized Festival del Mar Caribe to thank the many returning visitors, as well as our cruise industry partners, who have been extremely supportive of our recovery effort in the wake of the hurricane,” said Mayor Ortega.
