David Blanco Joins National Tour against Domestic Violence

David Blanco y su grupo teed off on April 6 a tour to several provinces of Cuba as part of the activities included in the JOIN US and Say No to the Violence against Women and Girls campaign, promoted by the UN, activism of JOIN US (ÚNETE) Artist Network, “Tod@s Contracorriente” Project and the Iberian-American and African Network of Manliness (RIAM is the Spanish acronym).

Blanco is accompanied by Cuban singer Rochy Ameneiro, young keyboardist Rodrigo Garcia, Doctor in Historical Sciences and coordinator of RIAM Julio Cesar Gonzalez Pages, as well as US producers of documentary “Habana Curveball”, Marcia Jarmel and Ken Schneider.

The first performance took place at the auditorium of Havana University’s Law School, where the above-mentioned audiovisual material was screened and workshop Manliness vs. Male Chauvinism was given by Doctor Julio Cesar Gonzalez Pages and member of RIAM.

The next performances are scheduled as follows: April 20 at Santa Clara’s “Martha Abreu” University, Wednesday 22 at Cienfuegos University, Friday April 24 at Matanzas University and Sunday 26 at the Factory of Cuban Art (FAC is the Spanish acronym) in Havana. The closing show is going to be held at Pinar del Rio University, on Monday April 27, a date that marks the 14th anniversary of David Blanco and his band.

David, a champion of diversity, peace and genre equity, told redmasculinidades.blogspot.com: “…it’s very important to take the tour to the university audience, which represents the future. That’s the cradle of the professionals that are going to lead the activities in the country”.

Determined to stand for these principles, Blanco became a member of UN’s JOIN US Artist Network and he participates in this campaign. His work on this matter makes him be one of the favorite candidates to be given the Men for Equity recognition.

According to this trumpet player, singer, keyboardist, producer, arranger and songwriter, musicians are to say something intelligent because they are crowd-pullers, which entails that they are mainly copied by young people.

Since 2001 to date, David Blanco and his band have produced five albums and two DVDs, with the support of Artex’s Bis Music record company.

Since 2014, this artist has been working on his album, entitled “Vida Libre”, to be produced by Bis Music. On “Vida Libre”, he told oncubamagazine.com that it’s an album “with the timbre I have to use now, it’s electronic – not electro music – but you can feel the electronic style of the 1980s in the USA and Great Britain. It‘s the same style, but it features Cuban elements.”
