Delta to Offer Wi-Fi on Latin America, Caribbean Routes

Delta Air Lines is expanding its in-flight WiFi service to flights between the U.S. and Latin America or the Caribbean.
WiFi provider Gogo will begin updating Delta's long-haul domestic aircraft starting in 2016, according to a Feb. 25 statement from the airline. With the upgrades to the 2Ku satellite standard, more than 250 of Delta's aircraft on long-haul domestic, Latin American and Caribbean routes will have access to WiFi when they fly over water or outside areas served by air-to-ground technology.
In addition, Delta will also upgrade its short-haul domestic aircraft with Gogo's next-generation air-to-ground technology as it becomes available.
Delta said it has completed installation of Ku-band satellite WiFi on more than one-third of its international fleet, and the rollout will be 85% complete by the end of 2015. By mid-2016, its entire international fleet will offer WiFi.
According to Routehappy, a website that rates airline experiences, Delta already has the most WiFi-equipped planes.
