Disney Magic Kicks Off Cruises to Mexican Riviera
The cruise ship Disney Magic, which usually operates out of Port Canaveral, set sail on its first cruise out of the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, Calif.
A flotilla of Los Angeles fire and police boats, Coast Guard cutters and recreational boats, including kite boats, accompanied the Magic out of the port as it began its first of 12 seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera.
The cruises are part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The 2,400-passenger ship will sail a 14-day repositioning cruise back to Port Canaveral in September.
The Magic carried an average of 10,935 passengers a month on seven-night cruises to the Caribbean in the current Port Canaveral fiscal year.
Its sister ship, the 2,400-passenger Disney Wonder- which remains at Port Canaveral- will continue to offer three-night and four-night cruises to the Bahamas.
