Dominican Travel Industry Expects Boost from Upcoming FCCA Event

As many as 21 Central America and the Caribbean Tourism ministers will come to the country to participate in the 17th annual cruise ship conference  next week, hosted by the Florida and the Caribbean Cruises Association (FCCA).

Tourism Deputy minister Magaly Toribio said the event is from Monday to Friday next week in Santo Domingo’s Jaragua and Melía hotels, with cruise line executives, tour operators, travel and ship agents and suppliers attending.

She called the event greatly important because cruise lines purchasing directors will meet with services providers from the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean for the first time. “For the first time in this type of event the cruise lines’ purchasing managers would participate, which is a magnificent opportunity for our country to continue growing as supplier of products the cruise lines buy for the consumption of their passengers and crew, such as beer, cigarettes and farm products.”

Toribio said the event has piqued the tourism sector’s expectations, especially Puerto Plata province, where there’s hope the cruise ships return to its ports, for which meetings have been scheduled with investors, local authorities and representatives of cruise lines which already have the country as a destination.
