DOT Reports Airline Fuel Costs Continue to Decline

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA), has updated its Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption webpage with preliminary March data.

The page provides preliminary data for January, February and March on individual tables for each month. The preliminary numbers are also available on the 2000-present table with comparisons to previous fuel cost and consumption numbers. The cost per gallon for U.S. airlines’ scheduled services: March 2008, $2.89; February 2009, $1.85; March 2009, $1.67.
