Expedia Acquires Italian Online Agency

Expedia Inc. has agreed to acquire Venere.com, an Italy-based online travel agency focused solely on hotel reservations. Venere has direct relationships with approximately 29,000 hotels, including 26,000 in Europe.

“Acquiring Venere will bring a well-known, respected, European consumer brand to the Expedia portfolio,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, Expedia’s CEO. “Additionally, it will immediately expand our supply footprint in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.”

Terms of the pending acquisition were not disclosed. Closing of the transaction is subject to competition approval in Germany.
