First JetBlue Flight Lands in Trinidad & Tobago

Low-cost airline JetBlue’s first flight on its daily nonstop service between Trinidad and New York City is scheduled to touch down today at Piarco International Airport in Trinidad & Tobago.

This inaugural journey takes place just nine months after discussions and negotiations between the Trinidad and Tobago Government and the airline started in April last year.

In his national budget for fiscal 2013/2014, Finance Minister Larry Howai had announced the new service, stating it would begin in July 2014—so the service has arrived five months before schedule. Flights are nonstop between Piarco and JFK International, New York City, USA.

The flights will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A320 fleet, with seating for 150 passengers, who will benefit from free in-flight entertainment, snacks and drinks, leather seats and more leg room in coach than any other US carrier on its award-winning service, a release from the Ministry of Tourism said on Friday.

A roundtrip ticket on JetBlue starts from approximately $3,400, and only one piece of checked luggage is allowed. A roundtrip ticket on state-owned Caribbean Airlines starts from about $5,100, and passengers are allowed two checked bags.

JetBlue flies 29 million customers a year to more than 80 destinations in the US and the Caribbean and Latin America, including Barbados, Jamaica and Puerto Rico, with more than 700 daily flights.
