Effective Dec. 4, the Holiday Inn San Juan will become the Verdanza Hotel, a member of the Summit Hotels & Resorts collection.

The 222-room property features three restaurants, a pastry shop, complimentary Wi-Fi in public areas, a rooftop fitness center, more than 15,000 square feet of meeting space and an expansive pool area with a Jacuzzi, a water spray park and a massage gazebo.

The Verdanza will become the only independent, full-service hotel in San Juan’s tourist district of Isla Verde, which is within walking distance of the beach and the nightlife scene.

The property opened in 1962 as the Racquet Club and later became the Carib-Inn Hotel until it closed in the late 1990s. The hotel reopened in 2004 as the Holiday Inn San Juan.

Décor and furnishings in guest rooms and public areas will be updated to reflect the urban-inspired theme of the hotel, Newman said. Summit Hotels & Resorts is a collection of more than 150 independent properties worldwide. The brand is owned by Preferred Hotel Group.
