Hurricane Paula Threatens Caribbean, Cruise Ships Rerouted
Hurricane Paula was threatening the Eastern Yucatan on Tuesday, Oct. 12, forcing cruise lines to reroute cruise ships to avoid the storm. At midday, the storm was about 155 miles south-southeast of Cozumel with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
Celebrity Cruises revised the Celebrity Solstice’s itinerary. To avoid higher-than-normal winds and seas in the Western Caribbean, the ship will sail east and visit Montego Bay, Labadee and Nassau.
Carnival Cruise Lines revised the itineraries for six ships -- Carnival Ecstasy, Triumph, Conquest, Valor, Imagination and Legend. The changes primarily avoid Western Caribbean ports such as Cozumel, Roatan, Progreso and Belize and replaces them with calls at Key West and Ocho Rios or a sea day.
Holland America Line has altered the itinerary for the Oct. 10 sailing of the Ryndam. The ship will no longer call at Belize City, Roatán or Costa Maya, Mexico. The cruise will visit Half Moon Cay on Oct. 13, Grand Turk on Oct. 14 and spend two days at sea before arriving back in Tampa on Oct. 17.
