Jamaica’s Cruise Industry Off to a Great Start

Michael Belnavis, who is the Chairman of the National Cruise Council (NCC) said that the starting session of the regional cruise shipping sector of Jamaica has kick-started really well. This is due to the fact that the main ports of the island have started witnessing a large increase in the arrival of cruise vessels.

He said that Ocho Rios, Falmouth and Montego Bay have started welcoming almost two ships per day and this is quite a noticeable leap as compared to last season.

He is also the mayor of St. Ann’s Bay. And, he went on to add that the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) as well as the Ministry of Tourism should be applauded for a great job in this field. He also said that these two government entities have been working together to get the cruise shipping appear optimistic.

Belnavis also said that PAJ is planning to start the infrastructural work in the resort towns.

This would enable to improve the country’s appeal as an important tourist locale. Furthermore, this should also improve the fortunes of the cruise sector. Belnavis also asserted that PAJ has started work in Falmouth and would be starting a master plan for the Montego Bay Port. Therefore, he feels, the cruise shipping sector has never been better in Jamaica.

Belnavis said that a Jamaican delegation that was headed by Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister many weeks ago to meet the members of the FCCA (Florida Caribbean Cruise Association) in Miami has positioned Jamaica as a favorable destination that would continue enjoying being a port where the world-class vessels come calling.
