KLM Puts Smart Money on Cuba as a Travel Destination

Dutch airline KLM is operating a modern and efficient Airbus 330-200 aircraft to cover the Havana-Amsterdam route since May 6, a token of the Air France-KLM Group’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection as the new jetliner brings about a considerable slash in carbon monoxide emissions.

With three weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, KLM is flying some 700 passengers every week to the Caribbean island nation, whose travel industry has turned out to be a major powerhouse for Cuba’s economic development.

Air France-KLM general manager for the Greater Antilles, the Dutch Caribbean and Surinam, Max Smits, and the airline’s general manager in Cuba, Celine Balmelle, saw off passengers aboard flight KL724 to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The small ceremony took place at the VIP Hall of the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana.

Mr. Smits took this opportunity to thank the support provided by Cuban authorities from Civil Aviation and the Tourism Ministry as he stressed his company’s intention to continue the sponsorship and backing of Cuba as travel destination.
