La Gran Piedra Stands Tall

La Gran Piedra stands among the favorite places of cruise passengers that visit this city, according to sources from the Tourism Ministry.

That heavenly scenery, which was severely damaged by hurricane Sandy some years ago, is as visited as San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle, perched on the mouth of Santiago’s bay and declared World Heritage.

The motel’s 27 rooms and other facilities were refurbished in an effort to bring its splendor back, in harmony with a privileged natural environment, headed by a 75-thousand-ton rock, described as the heaviest crag on Earth.

Right in the heart of the Protected Natural Landscape, as part of Baconao Biosphere Reservoir and 1,226 meters above sea level, visitors find that 55-meter-long and 25-meter-width volcanic block that attracts those who climb to this spots.

The access stairway was renovated, along with signs and other elements that make the access easier.

La Isabelica coffee plantation is based just a few kilometers away, as one of the pieces of the archaeological scenery at Cuba’s southeastern region, also labeled World Heritage and visited by tourists due to its impeccable preservation and history.
