The Chamber of Deputies Commission of the Dominican Republic, which studies the concession contract between the Dominican government and the company Tourist Ports of the Caribbean, assured it will not allow the eviction of Bayahibe’s inhabitants or jeopardize the beach.

In a meeting held in this community, the Commission, headed by Alfonso Crisóstomo, decided to continue studying the contract until a consensus is reached.

The deputies asked company representative Francisco Armando Rodriguez to explain the project’s design, the structure’s site change and what’s to happen with the areas’ workers.

Mr. Rodriguez reiterated that the work wouldn’t affect houses or bars and cafeterias in the place and that his only interest “is to organize the existing disorder of tourist transport towards Saona Island,” and modernize the area with the construction of a pier which will afford “more sources of jobs for residents in beach.”

However, the community disagrees because the beach area, of about 70 linear meters left for the population after several hotels were built, would be taken up by the company along with the adjacent lands where the locals own businesses.
