Los Cabos Fully Operational In Wake of Storm Threat

Los Cabos’ international airport and resorts remained open during and after the threat of Hurricane Blanca, which was later downgraded to a tropical storm and made landfall north of the destination early Monday morning, the Los Cabos Tourism Board said.

It reported that rainfall has begun to subside, with weather reports calling for sunshine in the coming hours.

The destination’s airport experienced minimal delays and cancellations. Resorts and hotels operated without any service interruptions of note, officials said, with occupancies at 60 percent.

A tropical storm warning is still in effect for La Paz to Loreto on the Baja Peninsula’s east coast and Santa Fe to Punta Abreojos on the west coast.

“We’re grateful to those guests who stayed with us during the passing of Tropical Storm Blanca,” said Rubin Reachi, secretary of tourism for the state of Baja California Sur.  “The destination was well prepared to manage any eventuality, but thankfully, we received only a bit of rain. As a result, our golf courses are greener than ever and we are ready to welcome many more friends to a refreshed Los Cabos.”

Clearly, tourism officials are breathing a sigh of relief that Blanca skirted the destination, which suffered devastating consequences from Hurricane Odile last September. The lion’s share of resorts and attractions impacted Odile have since reopened.
