Majestic America Line has announced a collection of 77 theme cruises in 2008 designed to showcase natural and cultural treasures of the United States. Among the options are the new “Rediscover New Orleans” journey or the classic “Fall Foliage” and “Spring Pilgrimage” programs. The theme cruises will feature presenters, entertainers and educational shore tours.

“The music, history, culture, holidays and events along the river make up the heart and soul of our country,” said David Giersdorf, president of Majestic America Line. “Our collection of unique themed cruises was especially designed to highlight all that our country has to offer.”

Majestic America will launch its 2008 season with seven departures of a New Orleans-themed cruise aboard the 436-guest flagship American Queen. This roundtrip voyage includes an extra day in New Orleans with a choice of two included shore tours. The cruises operate in January and February; rates for the seven-night program start at $1,799 per person, double occupancy.

The American Queen and the completely refurbished 328-guest Mississippi Queen will offer “Spring Pilgrimage” cruises in the South. Highlights include presentations detailing the history and culture of the Plantation South, as well as an exclusive tour of classic antebellum mansions, rarely open to the public.

There are 10 seven-night departures between March and April, and rates start at $1,799 per person. The 174-guest Delta Queen will offer three steamboat races aboard one 14-night cruise. The Delta Queen will race the Natchez in New Orleans, the American Queen between Natchez and Vicksburg, Miss., and the Belle of Louisville as they arrive in Louisville in the famous Great Steamboat Race.
