Martinique Tourism Development Strategy Soars on Expanded Nonstop Flights from New York

Martinique’s tourism development strategy received another boost today as Norwegian Air announced that it would extend its seasonal nonstop service from New York (JFK) to Martinique through to the end of April 2016. The move comes in response to strong demand for the new flights, which were originally announced in April 2015.
Norwegian’s 3x’s weekly service from New York (JFK) launched yesterday, December 3, 2015, marking the first time that Martinique has been directly accessible by air from the Northeast in more than 20 years. Additional 2x’s weekly nonstop flights via Norwegian will launch from Baltimore and Boston on December 4 and 6, respectively.
“It’s truly wonderful to see our many years of dedicated effort in the New York metro area, and elsewhere across the Northeast, payoff in this way,” said Muriel Wiltord, Director Americas of the Martinique Promotion Bureau. “The New York market has spoken: they want more Martinique! Our great friends at Norwegian have stepped up with an answer in the affirmative. We could not be happier to see the strong demand being met this winter.”
Recognized by SkyTrax as the world’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline and Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline for each of the past three years, Norwegian operates one of the world’s most modern and eco-friendly fleets.
On its flights between the U.S. and Fort-de-France, the company will deploy Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 186 comfortable leather seats and the added convenience of free in-flight Wi-Fi service, a first among air carriers serving the Caribbean.
New nonstop flights from the Northeast, aboard Norwegian, mark the latest in a series of air service developments that makes Martinique more accessible to U.S. travelers than ever before. On June 5, 2015, American Airlines expanded its nonstop service from Miami to Martinique, growing from once weekly to four days per-week.
This service expanded to six weekly round-trip flights during July and August, a schedule American will resume for the peak winter season starting December 19, 2015, operating every day except Wednesday.
