The Government of Mexico City is making plans to launch the International Tourism Fair of the Americas, a travel industry event scheduled for the capital city Sept. 23 to 26, 2010.

The event is expected to attract more than 200 national and international exhibitors from more than 70 countries, bringing together wholesalers, tour operators, transportation companies, hotels, event promoters, tourism organizations, travel agencies, conventions representatives and the media.

The event, which would be known as FITA 2010 (for Feria Internacional de Turismo de las Americas), coincides with the bicentennial celebration of Mexico’s independence and the centennial celebration of the Mexican Revolution.

In a statement, Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said that Mexico City is the ideal location to host such an international event. The city, he said, is renewing its commitment to the tourism sector, which is critical to the city’s and the country’s prosperity.
