Value World Tours, a California tour operator specializing in international river cruises, is discounting select “Egypt Explorer” packages by $1,000 per couple. The discount will help introduce the company’s new 2008 Egypt river cruise programs. The discount applies to the July 20, Aug. 31, and Sept. 14 departures.

With Sunday departures from the U.S., the nine-night package fits into a standard two-week vacation time frame. All tours include five-star hotels, daily sightseeing or shore excursions, outside cabins on the Nile Dolphin, most meals, and English-speaking guides.

The “Egypt Explorer” tour consists of five nights in Cairo, one night in Aswan, and a three-night Nile River cruise from Aswan to Luxor. Sightseeing around Cairo includes the King Tut exhibit in the Egyptian Museum, Old Town, and a full day at the Pyramids of Giza.

A home-hosted dinner and a visit to the El Khalili Bazaar are also included in Cairo. While cruising on the 130-passenger Nile Dolphin, passengers visit the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, Luxor Temples, Temple of Horus, Temple of Kom Ombo, Unfinished Obelisk, the High Dam of Aswan and more ancient sites.

An optional excursion to the Temples of Abu Simbel is offered out of Aswan. A felucca sailing to the Aswan botanical gardens and a belly dance show are examples of extra cultural events in the package.

Fares for the land and cruise package, after the discount, begin as low as $999 per person twin. Port and cruise fuel charges are $36 per person. International air from New York, with domestic air Cairo to Aswan and Luxor to Cairo, begins at $1,100 plus tax. A prepaid visa for Egypt is $25 and is obtained upon arrival into Egypt.
