The addition of a fourth ship in Europe in 2012 has prompted Norwegian Cruise Line to reposition ships that sail Caribbean cruises. The moves include a departure from Port Canaveral. NCL will take the Norwegian Sun out of Port Canaveral for the 2012-13 season and move it to Miami.

The Sun will become the NCL’s third ship in Miami, operating 10- and 11-day Southern Caribbean cruises beginning in October 2012. NCL said it could return to Port Canaveral when its fleet size increases. But for now, there is higher demand in Europe, said the cruise line.

The Sun will join the Norwegian Epic and the Norwegian Jewel in Miami. The Jewel is currently based in New York; NCL said it would soon announce a replacement for the Jewel.

Also in 2012, the Norwegian Dawn will replace the Norwegian Star in Tampa, offering seven-day Western Caribbean cruises beginning in November 2012. The Star will move to New Orleans during the winter and spring, offering seven-day Western Caribbean cruises. The Star replaces Norwegian Spirit, which will become NCL’s fourth ship in Europe.
