New Center to Promote, Spread Coffee Heritage

A center is being built in Santiago de Cuba city in an effort to promote and spread the coffee heritage. It’s one of the main works developed by the City Curator’s Office as part of the Coffee Pathways project, within the context of the fifth century of the village.

This premise will be nestled in the intersection of Heredia and Corona streets, right in the city’s historic core, where the house of coffee landowner Carlos Dranguet Thomas was based.

According to Yaumara Lopez Segrera, Head of the Archaeology Division in Santiago de Cuba: “This place is going to be a multifunctional space, culturally assorted, with exhibition halls where visitors will have the opportunity to see, enjoy and learn new details on the history and culture of coffee, every single aspect of the coffee heritage, from getting to know the coffee plant, its agricultural characteristics, to the coffee culture we presently have as a heritage of the French presence in Santiago in the 19th century.”

The premise is also going to feature a roast space and cafeteria where visitors will taste the delicious beverage in different ways.

“The interior spaces are being refurnished and the façade is being restored, as well as the roof that was deteriorated, grilles, every single decorative and constructive element is being preserved and prepared for the opening”, Yaumara detailed.

The creation of a Cultural Center at Dranguet House is one of the main lines of a comprehensive project.
