New Socio-Cultural Offers to Revitalize the Historic Core

This city’s Historic Core will feature new attractions when the recovery and restoration process of eleven spaces is done.
Since 2014, the Master Plan of the City Curator’s Office (CCO) encouraged the presentation of socio-cultural projects to use abandoned properties.

The interesting idea brought about several proposals to develop private projects, eleven of which are going to be backed up by the CCO in an effort to boost the activities in anticipation of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the village.
Art galleries, cafeteria, park, garden and spaces for gatherings are going to give new life to Santiago de Cuba’s most important urban area, along with the new choices.
“Santiago” Literary Cafe, for instance, is set to use a building that features historic and architectural values, nestled in Calvario Street, between San Basilio and Heredia. The project will gather writers, painters, sculptors and artists in a space where they’ll show their works.
Self-employed projects, beyond generating new income sources and jobs, are going to revitalize the city’s Historic Core and put the creativeness of new entrepreneurs to the test.
Avoiding the total loss of historic properties and using them for social benefit is the main goal of the Master Plan of the City Curator’s Office.
