P&O to Call at Banana Coast in Honduras

P&O Cruises has become the fourth cruise operator to schedule cruise calls at Banana Coast, the first mainland cruise destination in Honduras.
The line’s 71-guest Adonia, which is reserved exclusively for adults, is due to make its inaugural visit at Banana Coast on 27 February 2015. P&O’s smallest vessel joins HAL’s 1,260-passenger Ryndam, which is scheduled to make ten visits after calling for the first time on 19 November 2014. Silversea Cruises’ Silversea Cloud and Oceania Cruises’ Riveria have also booked calls at the port in December 2014 and March 29015 respectively.
Located in the colonial city of Trujillo, the US$30 million Banana Coast project has been coordinated by Grande Trujillo Authoridad, Desarollos Vision de Vida and Miami-based Global Destinations Development.
As part of the project, architecture company OBM International designed a two-berth, post-Panamax dock, a 50,000 sq. ft. shopping facility and transportation facility on ten acres of beachfront land.
Passengers will be offered a range of shorex options, including the signature Campo del Mar Nature Park and Beach Break trip, airplane rides to the Mayan ruins at Copan, snorkeling at a starfish bank, and kayaking in Guaimoreto Lagoon.
“We are very excited the Banana Coast will feature in our new Caribbean, Central and South America fly-cruise program on Adonia, launching in spring 2015,” said Christopher Edgington, P&O’s marketing director. “We think our passengers will love visiting the less-frequented, smaller and more intimate Caribbean destinations such as Trujillo and enjoy everything the Banana Coast has to offer.”
