Princess Introduces 16 New Caribbean Shore Excursions

Princess Cruises will introduce 16 new shore excursion options for passengers for Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries. The new tours are part of the approximately 550 shore excursion options available in 38 Caribbean ports during the season.

One of the new excursion options is the “Tobago Cocoa Discovery,” which explores the cocoa industry in Trinidad and Tobago. At its peak, the islands produced 75 million pounds of cocoa annually, 20 percent of the world’s supply. This agro-tourism excursion takes passengers on a walking tour through the Tobago Cocoa Estate overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Participants can learn about the history of the cocoa industry plus visit a mud oven and a cocoa house where the cocoa is dried.

Another new option in Barbados is a visit to Harrison’s Cave, which was recently redeveloped for easier access. The crystallized limestone cavern surrounds visitors with stalactites and stalagmites. Passengers will see the 50-foot “Great Hall” chamber and the cave’s 40-foot waterfall that cascades into a blue-green lake. Also new are a tour of salt flats in Bonaire and a hike up Christoffel Mountain on Curacao.

New Connoisseur Tours -- which are limited to groups of no more than 20 passengers -- include “America’s Cup 12-Metre” Yacht Race on Cozumel, where passengers “compete” in a simulated boat race. Each guest is offered a small task and is given instruction by the crewmembers. In Limon, Costa Rica, guests can choose to visit a family-owned, century-old hacienda in the mountains near San Jose, Costa Rica.

Six Princess ships will visit more than 25 ports throughout the Caribbean in 2010-11, with 14 itinerary choices. In addition, three ships sail on Panama Canal routes.
