Royal Caribbean International celebrated the grand opening of its call center in Springfield, Oregon, this week with a three-day party.

The $60 million, 160,000 square-foot environmentally-friendly building, designed to look like a cruise ship, currently employees 250 people, and will have 1,000 by 2009, said Monica Shovlin, Royal Caribbean´s spokesperson in Springfield.

The center, which had been partially open since January, will field inbound calls, the “vast majority” from travel agents, and some direct consumer inquiries.

To kick off the center´s official grand opening, Royal Caribbean brought in the cast from the “Boogie Wonderland” show from its Vision of the Seas vessel to perform at a red-carpet dinner for 500 guests and invited the community to raise money for a local children´s charity.
