Second Cuba-Mexico Women’s Meeting Held in Havana
Representatives from Mexico’s Confederation of Female Tourism Workers (Confetur) participated in the Second Cuba-Mexico Women’s Meeting that was inaugurated on Thursday at the Miramar Occidental Hotel in Havana.
During the opening session of the event —in keeping with their interest not only in the Caribbean nation’s natural attractions, but also in Cuba’s history, culture and medical advances— the visitors enjoyed lectures offered by specialists from the Havana-based Camilo Cienfuegos International Clinic of Retinitis Pigmentosa, such as doctors-professors Raul G. Perez Suarez, Jorge Orfilio Pelaez Mendoza and Carlos A. Huergo Lopez, who spoke about topics such as refractive surgery and its use in the treatment of vision-related diseases.
The coordinator of Confetur, Monica Noriega, praised the high qualification of the Cuban professionals and, particularly, their work in the early detection, prevention and education regarding diseases such as breast cancer and diabetes.
In addition, she said that on this occasion they intended to visit places such as the tourist resort of Cayo Santa Maria in the central province of Villa Clara, and the Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial, also in that province.
The closing session of the event took place Sunday at the Club Habana with a lecture by Rosa Marta Brown, the president of the Mexican association Infantia, an organization devoted to the fight against child sexual exploitation.
