Tropical Storm Colin Causing Travel Delays in Florida

On Monday night, Tropical Storm Colin made landfall in Florida, flooding major roadways, causing delays at major airports and forcing Governor Rick Scott to declare a state of emergency for over half the state.

According to ABCNews.com, Tropical Storm Colin made landfall with a maximum sustained wind speed of upwards of 50 miles per hour and has dumped more than 10 inches of rain in parts of Florida on Monday alone.

Governor Scott announced Tuesday that there were no reports of major damage from the storm, but Florida officials are keeping an eye on flooding as the rain continues to move across the state throughout the day.

Damage was been kept to a minimum, but travel was impacted by the storm. Roads in some areas were completely underwater and had to be closed off to traffic. In addition, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that crosses Tampa Bay has been closed due to the windy conditions.

As for airports in the area, there are reported delays and cancellations at Southwest Florida International Airport, Orlando International Airport and Tampa International Airport, among others.

The Weather Channel is reporting that by late Tuesday afternoon, the storm should move out to sea, but will drop heavy rain on North and South Carolina before it is through.
