UNWTO Gastronomy Network Discusses Action Plan

The recently created UNWTO Gastronomy Network met on the occasion of the 21st General Assembly to discuss its program of work and share with participants the objectives of this new initiative.

Opening the meeting, UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, said, "Consumers are increasingly seeking for original and innovative experiences and gastronomy and tourism go hand in hand as they are mutually reinforcing."

Among the planned activities of the Network is an online platform where countries can share information on their culinary richness and gastronomic routes. The initiative also offers all those participating the opportunity to interact with experts on gastronomic tourism and exchange experiences on topics such as branding or key success factors in this tourism segment.

Closing the meeting, the Director of the UNWTO Affiliate Members Programme, Yolanda Perdomo, said, "Gastronomy initiatives enriches the tourism offer and stimulates economic development in destinations worldwide, especially in local communities."
