Value Travel Packages Spotlight Diverse Caribbean Destinations

Uninitiated travelers tend to think of the Caribbean as a homogeneous group of sunny and warm islands, alike in nearly every regard. But while almost all Caribbean destinations feature stunning natural beauty, from palm-tree lined white-sand beaches to deep blue waters and lush green landscapes, each features a cultural character all its own.

The Caribbean’s diversity and distinct elements will be available to travelers this summer and fall, via a new group of hotel, resort and promotions highlighting the region’s most popular destinations. In some cases, the packages offer U.S. citizens with personal Caribbean heritage to re-connect with their historical roots.

The U.S. Virgin Islands’ tourism department is reaching out to Virgin Islanders living outside the territory with a Family Reunion promotion offering one free night, $350 in spending credits for family-focused activities, plus other booking incentives to travelers who reserve by Dec. 15, 2016, for travel through Dec. 15, 2017.

"Virgin Islanders living abroad are part of the tourism fabric of our Territory and it is important that we give them every incentive to come back to connect with their loved ones," said Canika John, director of marketing. The packages feature hotel stays in St. Croix and St. Thomas. Families will also receive customized T-shirts and a gift bag at check-in.

Travelers to St. Croix will have opportunities to explore cultural, historical and family ties "Come Home to St. Croix," currently underway at the Estate Whim Museum. Presented by the St. Croix Landmarks Society, the event promotes St. Croix heritage and traditions through family reunions, family research and other activities.

Participating St. Coix properties include the Buccaneer Hotel, Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino, The Palms at Pelican Cove, Sand Castle on the Beach and Mount Victory Camp Eco-Lodge. St. Thomas properties including the Green Iguana Hotel, Galleon House, Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort and Windward Passage Hotel are also participating in the promotion.

One of Grenada’s signature properties is celebrating JetBlue’s launch of its Mint premium service on flights to the island beginning in January by offering guests who fly to Grenada aboard Jet Blue with a 10 percent discount off published room rates for stays between Jan. 21 and April 29, 2017.

The upscale resort is located on Grenada’s Grand Anse Beach and features pristine tropical gardens, world-class spa and culinary programs, and elegant accommodations including beachfront Sea Grape suites equipped with patios and private gardens with chaise lounges and double hammocks.

Meanwhile, the Bahamas Paradise Island resort district is poised to welcome its first new property since 2007, the adults-only, all-Inclusive Warwick Hotel. Décor will feature touches of local craftsmanship, and the property will feature a 6,000 square foot terrace overlooking the marinas across the Paradise Island harbor. The new resort will feature three restaurants, a poolside pizzeria and grille, a beach bar, a lobby bar.

Via an Early Bird Savings promotion, guests who book stays by July 31 will receive savings of 30 percent on accommodations, with rates starting at $371 per room, per night, double occupancy for arrivals beginning Oct.1, 2016.

In Barbados, an iconic property is poised to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a new special package featuring pre-arranged access to dedicated immigration lines for quick processing and scheduled private transportation service. The Hilton Barbados package also offers rates starting at $199 per night plus daily buffet breakfast. Travelers must book at least four days prior to arrival; a minimum length of stay of three nights is required.
