With 225 delegates from 17 countries, 2009 attendance exceeded that of last year’s event in St. Kitts by 13 percent.

The highest level of hotel and tourism leaders ever assembled for a Caribbean travel industry conference will gather to speak at the 14th Annual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC 2010) being held at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 4-6, 2010. Keynote speakers include Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño and Robert Crandall, former AMR Corporation Chairman and CEO.
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and MasterCard Worldwide today announced an agreement in which MasterCard has been designated as a Strategic Partner of the Caribbean hospitality industry and is now the “Official Card” of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
In its 2010-2011 election, CHTA’s environmental arm, the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (CAST), recently re-elected Sir Royston O. Hopkin, KCMG, owner and chairman of Grenada’s award-winning Spice Island Beach Resort, as Chairman of CAST for the fourth consecutive, two-year term.
Here’s a sobering thought: Don’t expect that an uptick in tourism in 2010 will be evenly spread throughout the Caribbean. “The lion’s share of new business will go to the most savvy hoteliers and tour operators who are poised for success with strong marketing initiatives and contracts already in place prior to an industry bounceback,” said Alec Sanguinetti, CEO of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association.
