
The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) has launched the CHTA Data Center to provide members with a valuable resource combining statistics from the organization’s member destinations with surveys, reports and other useful information on the region and the hospitality industry.

Enrique De Marchena Kaluche, president of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, is urging the Caribbean to “strengthen international advertising and programs” to counter the effects of the tourism reductions seen across most of the region. He made these remarks during a keynote address to the graduating class of the School of Hotel Management and Tourism at the San Pedro de Macoris-based Eastern Central University (UCE) in the Dominican Republic.

The entrées have been made, the drinks have been mixed, desserts have been sampled, the judges have cast their votes and Glendon Carty of Anguilla has been named “Chef of the Year” at the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) “Taste of the Caribbean” culinary competition, which took place June 12 thru 14, 2009.
The Small Hotels Retreat, “Serving the Needs of Small & Independent Hoteliers,” will take place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2009 at the Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and is hosted by The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), in conjunction with the USVI Hotel and Tourism Association.
