
The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) has named Josef Forstmayr President-elect for 2010-2012. Mr. Forstmayr is a director on the Jamaica Tourist Board and Managing Director at Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Jamaica. Before entering his two-year term, Josef will go through a one-year initiation as President-elect that will prepare him for his role as CHTA President.

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) met with several senior executives from chain hotels with properties in the Caribbean region to reconstitute the previously successful Chain Hotels Forum, originally created 15 years ago, and agreed to further discussion on the creation of a “Communications Campaign” to educate and impress upon the people and the governments of the region the importance of tourism to the local economies throughout the Caribbean.

Since 2001 when the idea came into being and was eventually whipped into shape, CARIBCERT –a unique and world-class program developed and owned by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA)- has been actively implementing service standards and certifying employees to achieve these standards. Properly managed, this process can result in improved service levels and, in turn, better returns for a tourism business.

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), in conjunction with the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association, Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Bahama Breeze, will host Taste of the Caribbean at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan from June 12 to 14, 2009.
The life and career achievements of Sir Royston O. Hopkin, KCMG, owner and chairman of Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada, were celebrated by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) with the presentation of the Bill Bissell Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC) April 14 - 16 at the Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda.
