
Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade of the Seas sustained damage to electrical equipment after a water pipe broke on Jan. 24 near New Orleans. The company cancelled an undetermined number of reservations because of the resulting loss of power to some staterooms.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has introduced a preview of its new Espresso global reservation system, designed for travel agents selling Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur, Azamara Club Cruises and CDF Croisieres de France. The system will officially launch in March 2015.

According to recent survey of travel agents by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), 37 percent of agents reported an increase in bookings of 14- to 100-day cruises. Longer sailings, including world cruises of several months, are increasingly popular among both retired and affluent travelers, according to travel agents.

Pearl Seas Cruises, a coastal cruise operator that began operations in July, said it is exploring itinerary options for Cuba. It said the 210-passenger Pearl Mist would be a good size to take passengers where larger ships cannot dock in Cuba.
