For the past few years the economy in St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands has been suffering a serious financial setback, mainly because cruise ships have not been visiting that island as in the past. Only three ships were scheduled for the entire 2008.
Royal Caribbean International is partnering with AAA Travel to unveil more about the upcoming Oasis of the Seas. The new features will be revealed during an online virtual travel show on Aug. 26.
When the largest ship in the world debuts in late 2009, it will have one pool with a sloped beach-like entry, another for water sports and another for infants and toddlers. And, of course, Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas will have a main pool with umbrellas and the latest in cruise ship trends, private poolside cabanas.
Aker Yards said it has signed a contract with MSC Cruises to build two more Musica-class ships for the Italian cruise line. MSC did not issue any comment on the deal and said nothing has been finalized. Aker said the contract was subject to reaching a financing agreement.
