The fifth and largest UNWTO Ministers’ Summit held in cooperation with World Travel Market will look at how the travel and tourism sector can prosper following the global downturn (London, UK, 8 November 2011).

World Travel Market 2011 will focus on the emerging BRIC economies with its first dedicated headline session on the travel and tourism potential of Brazil, Russia, India and China. WTM 2010 highlighted the tourism development in the BRIC nations in its inaugural World Travel Market 2010 Industry Report.

Sustainable issues took centre stage on Wednesday at World Travel Market’s World Responsible Tourism Day. Leading environmental campaigner Tony Juniper opened the fourth WRTD at WTM, the premier global event for the travel industry. He urged the industry to change the thrust of its marketing, and spend its billions on ensuring green holidays enter the mainstream.

The Travel Foundation, Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Ocean Fund and Museum for African Art, have all been presented with the 2010 World Tourism Awards today in a ceremony at World Travel Market, the premier global event for the travel industry.

Latin America is switching its marketing focus from famous beaches to authentic off the beaten track breaks, reveals the WTM Global Trends Report 2010. Latin American countries are famous for their breathtaking beaches - including Brazil’s Copacabana and Mexico’s Acapulco – but they are looking to switch their focus away from white tropical sand and picture postcard beach locations to more authentic in-town holiday experiences.

Jamaica became the first country in the world yesterday to use 3D technology to attract tourists when it premiered its first 3D destination film during the 2010 World Travel Market (WTM) in London. The annual World Travel Market, held at ExCel exhibition centre, in east London, which runs from November 7 to 10, is the world’s largest travel industry trade fair.
