The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) highlighted the significance of cultural tourism at the 15th World Tourism Event (WTE) in Genoa, Italy, organized by UNESCO’s Transcultura program. The event focused on integrating Cuba, the Caribbean, and the European Union through culture and creativity.

CTO’s Sustainable Tourism Consultant, Narendra Ramgulam, emphasized the role of cultural tourism in promoting the Caribbean’s rich heritage while boosting economic growth: “By showcasing our traditions, music, cuisine, and historical sites, we enhance the region's appeal and attract travelers seeking authentic experiences,” he said.

Ramgulam also stressed that cultural tourism preserves local identities, supports sustainable development, and spreads economic benefits throughout the region, reducing dependency on traditional sun-and-sea tourism.

The event, part of UNESCO’s EU-funded Transcultura initiative, featured the Caribbean prominently, with discussions led by Ramgulam and former CTO Specialist Amanda Charles on sustainable tourism's opportunities and challenges. Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO Secretary-General, emphasized that presenting Caribbean strategies at such a prestigious event strengthens global partnerships and the region's tourism future.
