Uzbekistan Joins Global Code to Protect Tourists

Uzbekistan has become the 26th country to adopt the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), reinforcing its commitment to tourist rights and safety.
The ICPT serves as a global framework to protect tourists, especially in emergency situations, while ensuring their rights as consumers. By joining this initiative, Uzbekistan strengthens its legal protections for travelers and aligns with UN Tourism’s efforts to enhance global tourism standards.
Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, stated:
"Uzbekistan is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and quality for all visitors. This step enhances trust in our country as a reliable and welcoming destination while supporting a modern and competitive tourism sector that benefits both visitors and local communities."
Uzbekistan has been a leader in international tourism standards, playing a key role in creating the Committee for the Development of an International Safe Tourism Code and being elected Chair at its first meeting in December 2024.
Alicia Gomez, Director of Legal Affairs at UN Tourism, emphasized:
"The interconnected nature of global tourism makes harmonized standards essential. The ICPT and the future International Safe Tourism Code are crucial tools in this effort."
