Waves of Wonder: Taiwan Launches New Tourism Brand in London

Taiwan has unveiled its latest tourism campaign, "TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder," at London's historic Battersea Power Station. From August 30 to September 1, 2024, visitors are invited to experience Taiwan’s rich culture, natural beauty, and seasonal wonders through an immersive showcase that brings a taste of the island to the heart of London.
The new "Waves of Wonder" brand is designed to capture the essence of Taiwan as a diverse and year-round destination. To highlight this, the Taiwan Tourism Administration is focusing on promoting a range of unique experiences—from the mesmerizing Taiwan Lantern Festival and the vibrant Solar Festival to serene tea culture tours and rejuvenating hot springs. These attractions aim to appeal to travelers looking for both adventure and relaxation.
At the launch event, Linda Yu-Shan Lin, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Administration's London Office, addressed the audience, sharing Taiwan's vision for expanding its reach in the UK market. She emphasized the importance of British travelers to Taiwan’s tourism strategy and announced plans for increased visibility in London through creative campaigns on public transportation, such as buses, taxis, and the Underground.
The event also drew notable figures, including Pei-Yu Yen from the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, Hung-Mei Huang of China Airlines, Yen-Cheng Lai from EVA Air, and Evelyn Lee of the UK Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce. They all expressed their support for the initiative and highlighted the potential for growth in tourism between Taiwan and the UK, especially through unique cultural exchanges like the working holiday visa program, which offers young people the chance to live and work in Taiwan.
One of the event's highlights was an interactive art installation featuring large sky lanterns reminiscent of those used in the Taiwan Lantern Festival. This installation provided a visually stunning representation of Taiwan’s festive spirit. The exhibition also included a variety of experiences, from the flavors of a traditional Taiwanese banquet to the fun of night market games, allowing visitors to get a taste of Taiwan's lively culture.
Taiwan’s efforts to boost its profile as a travel destination are already paying off. Recently named the "Best Leisure Destination in Asia" by Global Traveler at the 12th Leisure Lifestyle Awards, Taiwan is set to continue its promotional activities with upcoming events in Paris and New York. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to attract visitors from Europe and North America, showcasing Taiwan as a dynamic destination with endless possibilities for exploration.
