WTTC: Tourism to Account for 11% of All Economic Activities by 2034

Tourism is set to reshape the global economy, with projections indicating it will account for 11% of economic activity by 2034. Speaking at the ITB Berlin International Trade Fair, Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the WTTC, outlined a bold vision for the industry.
She revealed that the sector is expected to create nearly 450 million jobs worldwide, including 100 million new roles. Her message resonated among key dignitaries and local officials present at the event.
Simpson emphasized that global cooperation is essential, describing tourism as a unifying force that fosters peace and collaboration while protecting both communities and nature.
Looking ahead, she stressed the transformative potential of technology—particularly AI—in revolutionizing how the industry operates, from streamlining bookings to enhancing customer service.
Innovative applications are already emerging: Google is leveraging AI to help airlines cut emissions, Expedia is using it to address last-minute disruptions, and hotel giants like Hilton are employing the technology to reduce food waste and assist visually impaired guests.
In closing, Simpson expressed gratitude for Berlin's hospitality and commended Albania’s dedication to sustainability. She also announced forthcoming discussions with global business leaders and ministers from countries including Albania, South Africa, Greece, and others, highlighting the event's role as a key catalyst for worldwide industry progress.
