Caribbean Turns to Social Media for Proposal Promotions

Caribbean tourism boards and resorts have taken to social media to promote their exotic destinations for Leap Year proposals and, hopefully, subsequent weddings and honeymoons.

According to Sandals Resorts, two thirds of men would not be embarrassed if their partner proposed to them and a third of women would consider popping the question today.

Also with a third of respondents saying their ideal wedding location would be in the Caribbean, both Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority and Saint Lucia Tourist Board have launched online and social media to promote Leap Year proposals.

Antigua & Barbuda is offering females that propose today the chance to win a honeymoon to the Sugar Ridge Resort, Antigua. To qualify, entrants have to load a short video of their proposal to YouTube and the top five will be shortlisted for a public vote.

Follow the day’s progress on the tourism board’s Facebook pages and @antiguabarbuda on Twitter with the hashtag #AntiguaBarbudaProposal. The promotion is part of a wider campaign to target women as they tend to spend 35% more time on social networks and drive 70% of consumer spending.

Meanwhile, Saint Lucia Tourist Board is encouraging women to propose on Twitter to also be in the chance of winning a honeymoon. Women who propose from today until 9 March including the @SaintLuciaUK name and #StLuciaLeap will be entered into the draw, as well as other unique proposals shared through the site.
