Dominican airline Arajet successfully completed its first-ever flight to the United States, marking a major milestone for the country’s aviation sector. Flight DM 2100 departed from Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo and landed at Miami International Airport (MIA) with 168 passengers on board a Boeing 737 Max 8 named Los Haitises, featuring the Dominican flag along its fuselage.

This achievement was made possible through the Open Skies Agreement, which has strengthened air connectivity between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. The flight was welcomed in Miami with a ceremonial water salute, along with the presence of airport officials, U.S. and Dominican government representatives, and the waving flags of both nations.

Arajet will now operate four weekly flights between Santo Domingo and Miami, increasing to daily service this summer. The airline will also launch a new Punta Cana–Miami route, also with seven weekly flights. Having already transported more than two million passengers in just 30 months, Arajet’s entry into the U.S. market marks a significant step forward in its international expansion.

In Santo Domingo, the flight was seen off by Monika Infante, CEO of AERODOM, and Ariel Yánez, representing the U.S. Embassy. Arajet also honored Pablo Mejía Durán as the first Dominican passenger to travel to the U.S. with the airline. “I feel proud to travel with Arajet to visit my family in Miami. It’s our Dominican airline, and we must support it,” he said.

“This is a landmark moment for Arajet and for the Dominican Republic,” said Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO of Arajet. “This first flight to Miami, the capital of Latin America, is just the beginning of our mission to offer affordable, efficient travel options, boosting tourism, business, and cultural exchange between our nations.”

In Miami, Ralph Cutié, Director and CEO of MIA, welcomed the airline’s arrival: “We are proud to welcome Arajet Airlines and thank them for making Miami their first U.S. destination.” Geanilda Vásquez, Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Miami, added: “This flight is a reflection of our aviation sector’s growth and the expanding connectivity that benefits both Dominicans and visitors to our country.”
