Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation Awards $119,000 in Scholarships

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) awarded 30 scholarships in 2008 totaling $119,000 to Caribbean students and Caribbean nationals seeking to further their education as hospitality industry professionals.

The awards went to Caribbean students from 14 different nations including Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad.

The CHTAEF scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000 for worthy applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to the industry and the potential for future success.

This includes academic scholarships for full or part time study as well as professional development scholarships and co-funded summer programs for industry employees and hotel industry trainers.

The 2008 recipients of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation scholarships are Maurine Bowers, O’neal V. Richards and Carolyn Joseph (Antigua); John Cortez and Jario Munoz (Aruba); De’Andrea Latia Thompson (Bahamas); Felicia AnnMarie Graham, Ramona Murray, Akem Cadogan, Kerwin Alleyne and Ayisha Smith (Barbados); Stephen Pietersz (Curacao); Irely Martinez Fajardo (Dominican Republic); Maxine A.C. Pierre (Grenada); Sonia Beharry, Koran Anna Lin Kong and Derlon Felix (Trinidad); Yvette McKinnon (Guyana); Jomo Morris and Omar G. Robinson (Jamaica); Jeremy Sanchez Cedre and Karla Mercado Rolon (Puerto Rico); Natasha Delverne and Shaline N. Welcome (St. Kitts & Nevis); Shelly-Ann Stanislaus, Junelle Ernest, Gemi St. Paul, Marian Yvonne Agard, Genavie Pierre and Noelita A. Grant (St. Lucia), Daryll D. Bain and Melissa Frederica Ballantyne (St. Vincent).
