President of the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) Berthia Parle considers insensitive, Air Jamaica´s temporary withdrawal of services to the Eastern Caribbean.

The Hotelier is one of several industry officials who have been reacting this week to the move by Air Jamaica, to facilitate new maintenance guidelines set by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority.

Over 6,000 passengers, most of whom were preparing for their Easter vacation have been affected by the cancellations, but Air Jamaica has promised to revert to the original schedule by April 16th.

Parle said that there was everything wrong with the manner in which the measure was taken, and the airline would find it difficult to regain the confidence, trust and dedication of regional travellers if they do return next month.

It definitely shows lack of sensitivity and a lack of respect for

Governments and a people that demonstrated such ardent support for the regional carrier, Parle told the state owned Radio St. Lucia.

Parle said that while industry officials and Governments understood that all carriers are experiencing difficulty especially with the high cost of fuel, and Air Jamaica had its own peculiar maintenance difficulties, there was no reason why the regional carrier could not have been more civil in executing this measure.
