CTO Releases First-Quarter Tourist Figures
The Caribbean Tourism Organization has released its tourist figures for the first quarter, showing wide differences across the region. Cuba experienced double-digit growth compared to the same period last year (up 15.2 percent), as did Jamaica (up 10.1 percent). The Cayman Islands registered 9.5 percent growth for the same period. St. Lucia was third with 9.4 percent growth while Antigua & Barbuda saw an 8.7 percent increase.
At the other end of the scale, Guyana showed an almost 26 percent drop between January and May this year. March and April were especially bad months, with data showing a 50 and 35 percent drop, respectively. January saw a dip by 13 percent while a 18.1 percent drop was registered in May.
