Cuban Airliner Resumes Nonstop Flights to Brazil

Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero arrived in the city of Sao Paulo aboard a Cubana de Aviacion aircraft, to resume direct flights to Brazil and meet with authorities of this sector.

Accompanied by a delegation of representatives of Cuba’s travel industry, Mr. Marrero will hold meetings with managers from Brazilian travel agencies and tour operators, as well as senior officials from travel and tourism within the government.

The Cubana de Aviacion aircraft landed yesterday at the Sao Paulo international airport. According to diplomatic sources on the Caribbean island, there is a growing trend in the inflow of travelers from that South American nation to Cuba.

The IL 96-300 aircraft returned to Havana with 119 vacationers. As of this moment, there will be a weekly flight to Sao Paulo.

The Cuban minister and his entourage met yesterday with tour operators and travel agents in a bid to promote the Cuba destination. He’s expected to travel to Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre to hold talks with the representatives from the leisure sector.

In the same breath, Mr. Marrero will hold a meeting on July 16 in Brasilia with his Brazilian counterpart, Gastao Dias Vieira. Both high-ranking officials are supposed to sign a memorandum of understanding to clinch closer cooperation in this field between the two countries.
