The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico to forge into one common destination
The Puerto Rican government is bent on developing trade and tourism in the west side of the island in an effort to goad European tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic into charting Puerto Rico in their vacations’ road maps.
As part of this endeavor, Carlos Vizcarrondo, chairman of the Puerto Rican House of Representatives, met with hotel investors, wholesalers and tour operators from the Dominican Republic to show them the incentives and benefits his government has to offer. “We’re focusing all efforts on the west side in order to pump up the region. As we Puerto Ricans prefer this zone to travel there, we want to share it with foreigners, too,” Mr. Vizcarrondo said in a press conference.
Secretary of Natural and Environmental Resources Luis E. Rodriguez indicated the aforesaid area is blessed with “incredible resources, six state-run woodlands, six natural reserves and miles of beaches.”
According to Jorge Lopez, head of the Dominican Tourism Office in Puerto Rico, the idea of this tourist exchange came into being back in 2001 and the purpose is to sell fortnightly travel packages to European trippers whereby they could spend one week in Puerto Rico and another one in the Dominican Republic. Through this initiative, they could join the possibilities these two nations have to offer and keep up the Dominican all-inclusive concept.
