The Dominican Republic will crank up a program aimed at training and certifying hotel employees in 45 work posts within the Caribbean leisure industry. The goal behind this effort is the certification of tourism workers once they have been trained in the skills and expertise required for each and every post, let alone raising the quality of service.

The implementation of this program in the country was signed by Simon Suarez, former president of the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) and Guillermo Graglia, principal of the Hotel and Tourism School at the Madre y Maestra Pontifical Catholic University (PUCMM).

The program is bankrolled by the Multilateral Investment Fund attached to the Inter American Development Bank (BID) and it has already been implemented in Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominique, Granada and Jamaica, among other nations.

The Caribbean Hotel Association –founded in 1959 with a view to foster the promotion and marketing of the region- is headquartered in Puerto Rico and has a membership of 700 companies linked to the tourist industry, including airlines, hoteliers and service providers.
