JetBlue Begins Daily Flights from Washington to Nassau

JetBlue Airways on Thursday began daily direct flights from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau, Bahamas.

The new Washington to Nassau route is one of three new routes launched by JetBlue during an impressive ceremony at DCA’s Terminal A in Arlington, Virginia. The low-cost airline also began daily flights from DCA to Charleston, South Carolina, and Hartford, Connecticut.

Among those bringing brief remarks during the launching ceremony was Dr. Eugene Newry, Bahamas ambassador to the United States.

In his remarks, Newry said the launching of the direct flight to Nassau was a “very exciting day” for The Bahamas, noting that with tourism being the country’s major industry, it would allow more visitors to come to The Bahamas as well as make it possible for more Bahamians to fly directly to Washington, DC.

Robert C. Land, JetBlue’s senior vice president of government affairs, said the new routes and “increased frequency follow the allocation of 12 slot pairs to JetBlue by the US Department of Justice as a result of divestitures from the American Airlines–US Airways merger.

Promising that more flights will be announced this summer “as JetBlue continues to ramp up its presence at DCA, Land added: “JetBlue’s first flight from Reagan National was only four years ago, but since then, with our award-winning customer service, we have quickly grown to today offer customers 24 daily flights, including the only nonstop to San Juan, Puerto Rico. By the end of this year, we will have up to 30 daily nonstop flights.”

JetBlue’s daily flights to Nassau depart DCA at 10:59 a.m. and arrive at LPIA at 13:29. The return flight leaves LPIA at 2:25 p.m. and arrives at DCA at 4:58 p.m.
