New Look Website Pushing Bahamas, Caribbean Events

A revamped Caribbean tourism website is making it easier for consumers to find events taking place in The Bahamas and other Caribbean countries, a Caribbean Tourism Organization official revealed at a Caribbean Week workshop.

Sharon Coward, intranet administrator at CTO, said the organization’s website, onecaribbean.org, was recently revamped to be a more effective tool for its more than 30 members.  Before, the homepage allowed only six events to be featured, but now 32 events can be listed at the same time.

Ms. Coward said the site’s analytics showed that people visited the site mainly to find Caribbean travel statistics. However, many search for events as well. She urged CTO’s members to share their country’s calendar of events with CTO for posting online.

“In the new design, all 32 countries are represented on the home page,” she said.

Bridgette King, director of Vertical Markets and Travel Trade in Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, said the restructured onecaribbean.org is another tool for travelers to research countries and plan trips.

“It will give the consumers the opportunity to come in and look at the whole Caribbean but when they want to go specifically to a destination, they can begin that research at that point, seeing what they have,” Ms. King said. “From there, there should be links from the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s website, linking them to our specific hotels, to our specific activities. So, that revamping is very important to us in addition to our own efforts.”

Ministry of Tourism officials from The Bahamas said they would update CTO on Bahamas events regularly.
