Orbitz Launches Refund Program
Orbitz has introduced a program that pays customers when other customers book the same flights for less money. The program, called Orbitz Price Assurance, will pay up to $250 per traveler.
Here’s how it works: Once customers book a flight on Orbitz.com, the site starts tracking to see if another customer books the same itinerary at a lower price. If that happens, Orbitz will issue a refund for the difference, between $5 and $250 per traveler.
Orbitz said it continues tracking other transactions until the day the customer departs. Each time the price drops and another person books, the customer’s refund amount will increase.
Orbitz Price Assurance applies only to the total airfare (base fare plus taxes, government fees, fuel surcharges and other surcharges) and does not apply to differences based on service, booking, processing, shipping or other charges not collected on the airline ticket.
